The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel, located in Geraldine, is an iconic heritage property dating back to the early 1900s. It has long been a beloved part of the local community, known for its charming architecture and welcoming atmosphere. In recent years, the hotel underwent an extensive refit to modernize its amenities while preserving its historic character. This comprehensive renovation aimed to enhance guest experience and restore the property to its former glory, ensuring its place as a central part of the Geraldine community for years to come.

Following a return to New Zealand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was contracted to manage this refit project. This was a fixed-term engagement with a focus on completely transforming the hotel’s infrastructure, updating guest facilities, and re-establishing it as a premier accommodation and dining destination.

Responsibilities

• Oversaw the complete refurbishment of the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, and F&B outlets.
• Managed contractors, suppliers, and staff to ensure timely project completion and adherence to heritage standards.
• Coordinated with local authorities and heritage consultants to maintain the historical integrity of the property.
• Implemented new operational standards to elevate guest experiences and optimize service quality.
• Developed marketing strategies to promote the re-opening of the hotel and attract both local and international guests.
• Worked closely with park rangers and DOC Land and Waterways.
